Conduction heat transfer is found to be occurring commonly in solids in which the molecular movement is restricted when comparing with a liquid or gas. Conduction occurs mostly in solids. In this process, heat is transferred from particles to particles of the solid, without the actual movement of the particles. For conduction to work there needs to be physical contact between the two systems in question. Conduction is the mechanism by which heat is transferred within material objects and between material objects that are in physical contact with one another. Like for solids mode of transfer of heat is conduction. However, there is one important difference between metals and non-metals: metals contain Now, here comes the question: if molecular vibration is common to both metals and non-metals, shouldn't we expect both of them to exhibit similar heat conductivity? This can be understood if we see how solids, liquids and gases are bound to their respective atoms or molecules. All solids (metals and non-metals) are made up of tiny particles called atoms, or groups of atoms called molecules. I merely didn't want to derail your present argument. For conduction of heat, a material medium is necessary. Conduction is a process of heat transfer in solids. Also, there is no reason why to leave the idea the earth is billions of years as related to heat flow behind. Well, in fact there are two mechanisms of heat conduction. When the heat transfer involves solids then we call it conduction.
